System Identification of Two-Dimensional Transonic Buffet

When modeled within the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes framework, shock wave dynamics on a two-dimensional airfoil at transonic buffet conditions is characterized by time-periodic oscillations. Given time series of lift coefficient different angles attack for OAT15A supercritical profile, Sparse Identification Nonlinear Dynamics (SINDy) technique used to extract parameterized, interpretable, and minimal-order description this dynamics. For all operating considered, SINDy infers that in lift-coefficient can be simple parameterized Stuart–Landau oscillator, reducing computation from hundreds core hours seconds. The identified models are then supplemented with equally low-dimensional dynamic mode decomposition based state observers enabling real-time estimation whole flowfield predicted lift. value model possibility enriching sparse data sets regime new geometries. Only few simulations need performed adjust coefficients supplement set cases. Simplicity, accuracy, interpretability make an attractive tool toward construction systems during design, certification, operational phases aircraft life cycle.
